THE DAILY WORD -- Learn it, use it, spell it
ullage \'e-lij\ noun [ME ulage, fr. MF eullage act of filling a cask, fr. eullier to fill a cask, fr. OF ouil eye, bunghole, fr. L oculus eye] (15c)
    1) The amount of liquid within a container that is lost, as by leakage, during shipment or storage
    2) The amount by which a container, such as a bottle, cask, or tank, falls short of being full

Usage example: The Secret Service estimates that President Cheney's daily ullage as he is hauled like a sweaty hunk of pale carrion from one place to the next, is roughly five to ten pounds of raw toxic liquid, a mixture consisting primarily of the usual blend of ethanol, rat's blood, residual plutonium (from all the rubbing against Lynne), and, strangely, Skippy creamy peanut butter.
